My Memorable Moment in Hue

In May 2011, I decided to go back to Asia for the 7th occasion….and back to Vietnam for the 3rd time.

Yes, I am traveling addict and South-East Asia is a part of the world that I especially appreciate… not only for the climate and amazing landscapes but also for the people!

So during my first & second trip to Vietnam, I got to know some great people with whom I kept in touch! When I decided to go back, I chose to focus on the northern and central part of Vietnam and to spend only a night in Ho Chi Minh in order to shop a little and get my flight back to Switzerland…

In the North, I had a beautiful week re-discovering the magnificent Halong Bay, walking down old Hanoi streets and around Hoan Kiem lake, eating a phõ in one of those streets restaurant …

The last evening, I was happy to have a glass of wine in the interior court of the Sofitel Metropole of Hanoi… Definitely my favorite spot in Hanoi!

So the day after, I flew to Hue, central Vietnam. There, my personal guide was waiting for me at the airport : Mr. Lân. I met him on my first visit to Vietnam and we kept in touch by sending each other’s letters. He has never been out of his country yet he speaks the most amazing French…clear & fluent (let’s say his French is much better than my English!!!). On my last trip to Vietnam, he told me “Next time you come, “I think you should stay at this hotel here”… You see this white building that doesn’t look like a hotel actually… everybody says it’s the best hotel in Hue now”… So, this time, I had booked this hotel for 2 nights. So after the airport, we went straight to the hotel.

I went to reception where I was warmly welcomed. I did the usual check-in formalities and follow the adorable girl to my comfortable room. She showed me the great view I had across the Perfume River, the spacious bathroom and then explained to me how to use the services offered by the hotel in order to enjoy my stay as much as possible! And before she left…my luggage was already there!

I then saw an envelope on my bed, with my name on it: it was a beautiful card wishing me an good stay in Hue and at La Residence Hotel. A really cute attention to detail I think!

At that moment, I was feeling very good… Like if I was on a second holiday! I went down to the bar, outside on the terrace, and ordered a mojito to celebrate!

Then Mr. Lân came to pick me up and we went to visit the beautiful citadel of Hue… I was impressed to see the biggest restoration work done in only 3 years… A truly Great afternoon!

Back to the hotel… I absolutely wanted to go the pool and relax a little. Then , I started walking around the hotel and see what else is in there… and I saw the Spa!!! I checked Citadel and the magnificent tombs of the Emperors before returning us to La Residence for an afternoon of relaxation.quickly the brochure and asked the smiling ladies if there any chance to get a massage the day after… After reading the menu more carefully … I finally gave into a 1h30 body massage the day after… only 1 word : it was awesome!!!!!

One more very good souvenir I have from my stay is the food!!!!! Breakfast was great.. with a lot wide choice of breads, fruits, etc… and a good coffee!!! (not easy to find in Vietnam…)

After almost 10 days of Vietnamese food.. temptation to have European food was big… So I had dinner at the hotel the second day : delicious!…

Finally… I can confirm what Lân told me…la Residence is a great hotel and the staff are all adorable…

They all made me feel special, smiling at me each time they saw me, talking and sharing with me (rare in Vietnam and other hotels I have been to…), always ready to help…

My trip in Vietnam wasn’t over as I was going to Hoi An after, a very cute city and my favorite in Central Vietnam, I was feeling kind of sad to leave the Hotel and his unique atmosphere…

I am looking forward to go back to Vietnam and will definitely go back to La Residence again!!!
